In 2025 the Pinakothek der Moderne Munich will honour Warwick Freeman with a major retrospective exhibition in the Museum. The exhibition acknowledges Freeman’s international standing as a preeminent practitioner working in his field today.

As part of preparations for the exhibition, Freeman has been working with Objectspace, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland to compile a catalogue raisonné of his practice. Glance — A Sampling from the Archive has come about during this research.

Warwick Freeman was born in Nelson in 1953 and began making jewellery in 1972. As a prominent member of Auckland Jewellery Co-operative, Fingers, he was at the forefront of a rethinking of contemporary jewellery practice that occurred during the 1980s. In 2002 Freeman was made a laureate by the Françoise van den Bosch Foundation based at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. In the same year he received a laureate award from Te Tumu Toi Arts Foundation of New Zealand.
